Cristina Mascarenhas Gouveia’s practice has a strong focus on corporate law and litigation matters.

Cristina is experienced in providing legal assistance to both individuals and companies, advising clients in all corporate matters, including the negotiation and execution of all kind of legal transactions. In addition, she has broad experience in civil, commercial, administrative and criminal litigation.

Prior to joining JNV – Lawyers and Notaries, Cristina worked as a Lawyer at PLMJ – A.M. Pereira, Sáragga Leal, Oliveira Martins, Júdice e Associados, a law firm based in Lisbon, having also benefited from several work experiences abroad, notably at the German law firm Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek in Düsseldorf, at the European Ombudsman office in Strasbourg and at the United Nations office in Geneva. Moreover, Cristina has been lecturer for Portuguese Legal Terminology and Introduction to Portuguese Law at Saarland University in Germany.

Cristina is author of an article related to liability in international carriage by air, Die Haftung des Luftfrachtführers für die bei der Beförderung entstandenen Personen- und Sachschäden im internationalen Luftverkehr, published in Transportrecht, DACH Schriftenreihe 38, Schulthess Verlag, Zürich, 2012. She is co-author of the chapter Foreign Investment in Portugal of the book entitled Outbound Investments: Strategies and Pitfalls and she translated from German into Portuguese Martin Kirsch’s article Zentrale Begriffe der verfassungsgeschichtlichen Analyse der europäischen Sattelzeit um 1800, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. A. M. Hespanha, published in Themis, Revista da Faculdade de Direito da UNL, Ano III – N.º5, Almedina, 2002.

Cristina graduated from the Faculty of Law at the Nova University of Lisbon in 2006 having been a research assistant of Prof. Dr. José João Abrantes on the European Labour Law Network project. She attended the Faculty of Law of the University of Cologne in Germany as an Erasmus student and she has a post-graduation in Human Rights from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra. She concluded her LL.M. in EU Law at the bilingual (German and English) Master’s program at the Europa-Institut of Saarland University in Germany in 2007. She is a member of the Portuguese Bar Association and of the Macau Lawyers Association.

Cristina is fully bilingual in Portuguese and German and fluent in both oral and written English and Spanish. She has intermediate proficiency in French and Italian.
